Miscellaneous Camelot Information

Location and Features

Camelot is a rustic cabin located near Plymouth, NH off I93 in the southern foothills of the White Mountains. It is about a 2.5 hour drive from Boston and about 40 min from the alpine ski areas of Loon Mtn and Waterville Valley, hiking on Mounts Mousilake, Lincoln and Liberty, scenic vistas at the Flume and Cannon Cliff, or nordic skiing along the Kancamagus Highway. It's just 15 min away from world-famous sport climbing at Rumney Cliffs.

Camelot has electricity, but has no running water, and users will have to bring all their own water with them. The padded loft sleeps about twenty people, and there some couches which could support a couple of others. There is plenty of camping space outside. Camelot has an electric stove and cooking utensils. There is also a dining table and plates and cutlery for about twenty people. If you don't want to eat at the cabin there are many restaurants in nearby Rumney. Explore.

We also have a useful map of the property (PDF).

Availability

Camelot is now available for use by any MIT affiliated organization for private functions, or by individuals. The most important change in policy to reflect the burning of Intervale is the key holder policy. Under these rules, every group which wishes to stay at Camelot, regardless of size, must have a MITOC-approved key holder at the Cabin. Large groups which do not include a key holder will need to arrange for a key holder to accompany them for the weekend. Many of the key-holders are willing to accompany other groups, but generally expect a \$25/night donation for their time. The group would also be responsible for the key holder's transportation. For small groups, a number of "drop-in weekends" have been set up throughout the year. These are weekends when MITOC will make sure a key holder will be at the cabin so any group or individual may use the cabin.

Keyholders

It is very easy to become a keyholder, and we encourage all the groups which might want to use the cabin to have a member become one. In order to become a key holder, one has to go on a check-out trip to the cabin with the cabin manager. The trip involves a morning spent touring the cabin, and an afternoon spent hiking, or doing some maintaince work. Watch the MITOC mailing list for information about the next trip. Generally, one is held in late spring, and one early in the fall. Keyholders are not responsible for the behaviour of Camelot users, and the group renting the cabin is resposible for reading the Camelot Usage Instructions before arriving at the cabin.

Rental

As in the past, large groups can reserve the cabin for exclusive use. Please try to schedule this at least a month in advance, and let the cabin manager know that you want an exclusive rental. This will allow us time to find a key holder to accompany your group if needed. To reserve the cabin (either exclusively or otherwise) you must contact the current Camelot cabin manager (see officers here) - you should probably check the schedule first. Groups also need to leave a deposit check at the time collect the keys.

If you have any questions please contact the cabin manager.
