We're not snobs
- MIT students (both undergraduate and graduate)
- MIT faculty and staff
- MIT alumni
- MIT community (family of the above, etc.)
- Wellesley students, faculty, staff, and alums
- Draper Labs staff
- Lincoln Labs staff
- Members of other IOCA (Intercollegiate Outing Club Association) clubs
If you're not a member of one of the above don't despair! Contact us
and explain your affiliation or how you heard of the club --- if
nothing else, we can probably suggest other area outing groups you
might be interested in.
How do I become a member?
You've heard all about the MIT Outing Club, checked out our web page, and
now you want to join. Here's most of the information you need to know
to become a member. If you still have questions after reading this page,
don't be afraid to email
mitoc-owner@mit.edu.
There are two different degrees of membership in the MIT Outing Club.
- You subscribe to one or more of the MITOC mailing lists. There's no fee to be on
the mailing lists, and you can add yourself or take yourself off at
any time. You'll get news about MITOC trips and events, and be able
to participate in mailing list discussions about relevant topics.
- You become an official MITOC member by purchasing a memberhip
card for $10 during office hours at the
MITOC office (checks only!). The cost of the card helps
to cover the expenses of running trips and repairing equipment. A
membership is good for one school year. You need to have a membership
card to rent gear from the Outing Club, and to go on official MITOC trips. You don't need to join
in advance before renting gear or signing up for a trip (though you're
welcome to drop by during office hours to join and look around). Most
people pay membership dues when they rent gear or join a trip for the
first time that school year.
