"Travesties" is the senile reminiscence of Henry Carr. He recreates his intellectual battles with Tristan Tzara, his financial problems with James Joyce (for which Carr is cursed and abused in the 'Circe' episode of "Ulysses"), his uncertain closeness with Lenin, and his undeniable triumph as Algernon in "The Importance of Being Earnest." The action takes place in Carr's study and drawing room, the Zurich Public Library, and the Theater zur Kaufleuten on Pelikanstrasse.
