Minister
of Culture Dr. Tarek Mitri
holds a Doctorate in Political Science from the university of Paris X. Prior to
his doctoral work he had completed his Sciences and Philosophy Studies at the
American University of Beirut. Prior to his appointment as Minister of Culture
in the cabinet of Prime Minister Siniora in July 2005, Minister Mitri was the
Minister of Environment & Administrative Reform in the cabinet of Prime Minister
Najib Mikati (April 2005). He was a Visiting Professor at Harvard University
(2003) and the Free University of Amsterdam (1997). He was also Professor at the
Universities of Geneva and Balamand (Lebanon). In addition to his political and
academic careers, Minister Mitri held several positions in the following
capacities: Secretary for Christian-Muslim relations at the World Council of
Churches in Geneva (1991 – 2005), and at the Middle East Council of Churches
(1984 – 1991), Co - founder of the Lebanese Platform for Dialogue, and the Arab
Group for Christian-Muslim Dialogue, Member of the Executive Committee of the
Institute of Palestine Studies. Minister Mitri is the author of many books, the
latest being « Au nom de la Bible, au nom de l’Amérique », « Labor et Fides »
2004, and « In Gottes Namen? » Lembeck, 2005.
Dr.
Joseph E. Aoun,
an internationally renowned scholar in linguistics, became Northeastern
University’s 7th president in August 2006. Prior to assuming the presidency, he
served as dean of the University of Southern California’s College of Letters,
Arts and Sciences for six years. USC College is the largest of USC's 19 academic
schools, with more than 30 academic departments and programs. USC College has 35
endowed chairs and more than 400 tenured or tenure-track faculty members, and
enrolls more than 10,000 undergraduate students, plus more than 1,000 graduate
students in some 30 PhD programs. Dr. Aoun received his PhD in linguistics and
philosophy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1981; his Diploma
of Advanced Studies in General and Theoretical Linguistics (Diplome d'Etudes
Approfondies de Linguistique Generale et Theorique) from the University of Paris
(France)j VIII in 1977; and Masters in Oriental Languages and Literature from
Saint Joseph University (Beirut, Lebanon) in 1975. He joined the USC faculty in
1982 and was the inaugural holder of the Anna H. Bing Dean's Chair in USC
College.
Mr.
Edgar Masri
is
President and Chief Executive Officer of 3Com. He leads the company’s global
operations. Edgar is also a member of the Board of Directors and serves as
Chairman of the Board and a Director of 3Com’s majority-owned joint venture,
Huawei-3Com (H-3C). Prior to re-joining 3Com as President and CEO, Edgar spent
six years at Matrix Partners, a venture capital firm focused on technology
investments, and more recently served as Chief Operating Officer at Redline
Communications. Edgar holds a Diplome d’Ingenieur from Ecole Centrale de Paris,
a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of
California at Berkeley and a Master of Business Administration with distinction
(Arijay Miller Scholar) from Stanford University.
