Announcing: Beaver Bonspiel 7--Sweep 'Til You Sleep
Date: Saturday, October 28, 2000
Place: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
Format
Our tournament rules will be a modified version of the game rules
of the National Academic Quiz Tournaments company. We will be running
untimed rounds of 20 tossups (each worth 10 points) with an appropriate
number of bonus questions (each worth 30 points).
Every team which attends must submit a packet of questions,
unless you secure special dispensation from the tournament
committee.
No school may send more than three teams. If we have room
after the final notification deadline, we'll open it up. First dibs on
extra spots go to teams that give us good packets.
Packets will follow our question guidelines (see below).
Depending on the number of teams, we will have some form of round robin
followed by a playoff. We'll try to run on time this year, but we'll
also try to give folks a lot of games.
Who can play
Each team may consist of any number of full-time or part-time students
who are registered at a college or university. Only four (4) team
members may play at the same time. No team may have more than one (1)
graduate student. For our purposes, a student is defined as a player who
is both enrolled in college and progressing toward a degree, and a
graduate student is defined as a student who has already received a
bachelor's degree in any subject but not yet received a terminal
degree.
Deadlines
The early question deadline will be Sunday, September 24, 2000. The
normal question deadline will be Sunday, October 8, 2000. The final
deadline for notifying us of your team's participation will be Sunday,
October 8, 2000. If you have told that you are coming but drop out after
October 15, 2000, there will be a $30 late cancellation fee per
team. (Exceptions will be made for emergencies, accidents, alien
abductions, etc.)
